I’ve recently become a member of the Social & Events Committee and the Executive Committee.  I attend the Sudbury sessions of Upbeat on a Tuesday morning.

I have lived in Sudbury for 42 years and have always loved the area.  I arrived two days after marrying Gordon in High Blantyre, Scotland  and it was a bit of a shock as there weren‘t any hills. I was born in Glasgow and lived there until we moved out to the Campsie Hills when I was seventeen.  It was very rural mostly forestry commission and the Carron Dam.  I always worked in Glasgow but in the winter we always had to wait until the snowplough cleared the way so that Dad and I could get to work.

I met Gordon and his friends at the Highlanders Institute in Glasgow.  We always loved the dancing there.  Gordon and his brother Ian would literally throw us round the floor from one partner  to the other.  It was a bit hair raising at the time but great fun.  I have a smile on my face at the memory of it.

In 2002 I retired as manager of Sudbury Sports Centre and enjoyed three great years with Gordon until he died suddenly whilst playing bowls in 2005.  We had travelled far a wide and Gordon was happiest when he was planning his next holiday.  We were always interested in sport, roller dance and swimming for me, bowls, keep fit and latterly golf for Gordon.  Our son Stuart was a regular on the Suffolk Schools County Badminton which meant weekends were either training or matches.

Nowadays genealogy is my hobby and I spend absolutely hours on my computer every day. Joining Upbeat has also changed my life.  I’ve met some really lovely people on the trips and hopefully I’ll make some contribution as a committee member.
