I am married to Peter and we have 3 children and 5 grandchildren. I was born in Walthamstow E17 and lived there most of my life. We decided that when the children had grown up we would buy a pub and moved to Ramsgate, Kent and lived there for sixteen years. Pub life was very good and the social life was great.
I was Chairlady of the Ladies Auxiliary for two years during which time we raised money for various charities. I enjoyed my work, but when my husband became unwell in 2004, we sold the pub and moved to Sudbury. In view of the change of lifestyle, my husband initially found it difficult to settle but was told about Upbeat by his doctor.
Upbeat and its members helped Peter a great deal and we started to take an interest in the group and volunteered to help out where we could and assist in the day to day running at Sudbury. I took on the selling of the weekly Lottery Bonus Ball, which has proved a great success and helped with organising raffles and other fund raising facilities at the various functions. Wanting to help more, I joined the Social & Events Sub Committee and then the main Executive Committee in 2008.
The people that we meet in Upbeat are friendly and great and I enjoy helping to raise funds so that others may continue to benefit like my husband has.
